During Movember (the month formerly known as November) I’m growing a Mo. That’s right I’m bringing the Mo back because I’m passionate about tackling men’s health issues and being proactive in the fight against men’s depression and prostate cancer.

The money raised by Movember is used to raise awareness of men’s health issues and donated to the Cancer Society of New Zealand and the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand. These two charities will use the money raised to fund research and increase support networks for those affected with prostate cancer and experiencing depression.

Did you know:

Depression affects 1 in 10 men….Most people who experience depression make a full recovery. The first step is seeking help.
Last year in New Zealand 2,700 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer and more than 600 died of prostate cancer - (that’s nearly two each day).

A Tribute To Teva

A tribute to TEVA

Thank you to Teva for all of the many donations. Before I left Teva sent me a large box containing a ton of items: beachballs, watches, belts, hats, sunglasses, etc. The giant smile that spreads across a kid*s face when I stop them to say, J*ai un cadeau pour tu, (I have a present for you), is absolutely priceless. I always wish that I could stick around to see the kid put on the hat or sunglasses but it is quite dangerous as others see they run to beg or pull at you.

The small boy with the beachball is my host brother who is 6 and literally plays with the ball every single day. I gave out a few other beachballs to the kids on my street and now everytime I walk by the kids shout at me, un balloon, un balloon.

The group of young adults is my summer school class on our last day. I brought them hats and sunglasses and they were all very thankful.

I am saving the watches for my soccer team that I will begin coaching in one week. Everything donated is greatly appreciated here. It is amazing how much joy a simple beachball brings to a child*s life here. Again, thank you so much for all of the donations; the contents of that one box has made the world of difference to some of the people here in Senegal.

Teva Dutch Freestyle Championships 2008

Last weekend we have raised the bar for freestyle kayaking events. With a spectacular light show and booming beats the TEVA FREESTYLE PIT was the battle ground for the Open Dutch Freestyle Championship of Kayaking 2008. Our own Casper van Kalmthout beat the European champion Matthieu Demoulin in a very exciting finale. Teamrider Seppi Strohmeier from Germany took third place. This event will be the start of a new take/view on the freestyle kayaking sport. The newly introduced showelement will keep spectators, which don’t have any knowledge of kayaking, excited and entertained during the whole event, which is always one of the biggest problems. It was a big succes, everybody was stoked and wants more!
